As the days get longer and summertime approaches, the conditions for walking and trekking across Norfolk greatly improve. To help make your time in our town that little bit easier, we’ve put together a list of the top 4 walks in Wells-next-the-Sea.

From scenic 2-mile distances, to 8-mile treks that will lead you along the coast, we’ve got a walk for everyone.

Walk 1908

If you’re pretty fit and love a good day-trek, this 8-miler might just do the trick. Starting from just outside Holkham Gap, this walk will take you right around Holkham and Wells, ensuring impressive views of Holkham Bay (which is dog friendly), Staithe Wood and the 18th century Holkham House.

Walk 2081

For something that’s not as quite intense, but still gets your blood pumping, try out this 4-mile walk. This easy going walk takes you across a section of the Norfolk Path and through the picturesque West Sands – truly stunning.

Barrow Common

The location of this walk is just outside of Wells, in Brancaster Staithe, but it’s definitely worth the short car journey there. This 2.4-mile trek usually takes an hour and a half to complete at a leisurely pace, making it ideal for when you fancy an afternoon in the sunshine. Throughout the walk to Barrow Common, you’ll be treated to breathtaking panoramic views of the coast and Scolt Head Island.

Cockthorpe

Another short drive away, this circular, 5.5-mile walk takes you through the village of Cockthorpe, along the saltwater marshes and through the stunning Norfolk countryside. Definitely one for those who enjoy a little cross-country now and then.

Raring to go?

Wells-next-the-Sea is a stunning place and there’s always a hidden corner of our stunning coastal countryside waiting to be enjoyed. Wherever you decide to wander, remember to fuel up with some yummy fish and chips from Platten’s – you’ll need your energy!
